Shetland Pony
The Shetland Pony is beloved for their adorable size and fluffy coats. The breed has been isolated on the hills of Shetland Isles for over 4,000 years. The breed is well adapted to the area and environment. The breed has been used in coal mines due to their smaller size and strength. Shetland ponies have been rounded up and selectively bred as domestic horses but, this export of wild shetlands has threatened the breed. The Shetland Pony Stud Book was created in 1890 to help keep the purity of the breed.
