Pony of the Americas is a cross between the Shetland Pony and Appaloosa breeds. Les Boomhower began the breed after buying an Appaloosa/Arabian mare who had just foaled a colt sired by a Shetland pony. He enjoyed the look of this colt and thus, wanted to begin the breed.
