Clydesdale

The Clydesdale is a draft breed originating in Scotland for draft work from native horses in the 18th century. These horses were bred to create a heavier horse. In a 1808 sale, Lampits Farm bought a two-year old filly who would produce several foals believed to benefit the breed. Descendants of this filly were powerful and many of which were bays with white markings. A large number of the breed were exported to other countries from 1850 to 1880 and with the Stud Book noting from 1884 to 1945 over 20,000 exports. In 1975 the breed was listed as “vulnerable” with the most recent categorization as “at risk”.

The white marking pattern causing the sabino-like markings for Clydesdales is unknown. However, the breed is known to have the “W20” gene. This is used to determine the iconic “sabino” like markings in-game.
