The Drum Horse is a cross between the Clydesdale or Shire and an Irish Cob. Currently, these are crosses that contain 50% Irish Cob and 50% Clydesdale. The Drum Horse breed is considered a “colored Shire” but is trained for a specific job, carrying drums! The breed is popular for its feathering, coat color, and pageantry when used in the Queen’s parades. Today, any horse with 6.25% to 50% Irish Cob and the rest Shire or Clydesdale is able to register as a Drum Horse.
